Tips for a Successful Office Relocation

For every successful office relocation, there is a commercial moving company behind it. Office movers work with business owners to make sure all office supplies and equipment find their new homes.

Whether you run a small business or a large corporation, hiring commercial movers is the best way to stay organized and improve efficiency. Keep reading to learn how professional movers make your life easier when moving to a new office.

Start Planning Early

There are a lot of details that go into moving your business to a new location. For this reason, we recommend that you start planning your move 4 to 6 months in advance. While this may seem like a lot of time, it’s important that you pace yourself during the planning phase. A lot of details can go overlooked if you start planning too late. Not planning until the last minute also makes the move a more stressful experience than it needs to be.

Create an Office Layout

Walk around your new office space and determine where everything should go. Where should the printer go? How should employee desks be arranged? These are questions that should be answered before moving day. It’ll be much easier for our movers (and you) if you already know where you want office furniture and equipment placed. After you draw an office layout, be sure to provide copies for your employees and movers.

When you create an office layout ahead of time, you don’t have to worry about making snap decisions about where furniture and equipment should go. Instead, you’ll be able to make thoughtful decisions, so you won’t have to worry about rearranging desks and other office furniture later.

Hire an Office Moving Company ASAP

The sooner you hire an office moving company, the better. We recommend hiring a local moving company at least 1 to 3 months ahead of time. Be sure to ask the company about the moving services they offer and whether they have experience with commercial relocation. Moving your office to a new location will require local movers who have experience managing all the details of an office move.

Organize Packing Boxes

Your employees will be responsible for packing their belongings, which means you’ll want to create a system to stay organized. We recommend having employees write their names on several places on boxes. If you decide to create a map of your new office space, make sure you include where employees will work. That way, the commercial movers will know exactly where boxes should be placed in the new office. Name cards can also be placed in their respective offices so movers know where boxes go.

Update Your Address

A month before your move, you’ll want to contact Google to have the address in your online listing changed. Since Google will need to send confirmation materials, the process takes a long time. About one week before moving office, you’ll need to make sure clients, suppliers, and vendors have your new address. There are a lot of places where you’ll need to update the address, such as your company website or letterhead.
